2026 Preview

South Lamar completed the 2025 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region five, the Stallions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2025. South Lamar's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wadley by a score of 56-8.        South Lamar struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.2 points a game.        Since 2010, South Lamar has gone a combined 80-98. Their 44.9% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 1A over the past sixteen seasons.        Over the past 25 seasons, South Lamar has managed to compile a record of 131-145. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 1A and 210th in the AHSAA. Head Coach:        The Stallions are led by head coach Clay Gilliam who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 61-53 over the past ten seasons at South Lamar. Under his direction the Stallions have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won one region crown with Coach Gilliam. Season Outlook:        The South Lamar Stallions will play in Class 1A region five during the 2026 season.                   The Stallions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

Season Opener:
       The Stallions open the 2026 season at home against non-region opponent Lamar County on Friday, August 21 at J.C. McAdams Field. Last year the Lamar County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Marion County by a score of 40-36.

       South Lamar and Lamar County have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Stallions have a 20-22-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2025 with Lamar County winning by a score of 12-7.
