2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Horseshoe Bend completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Horseshoe Bend finished seventh in Class 2A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Generals won as many games as in any season since 2016. The Generals last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Horseshoe Bend was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Generals want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.0 points a game. Since 2010, Horseshoe Bend has gone a combined 41-92. Their 30.8% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Horseshoe Bend has not won much with a record of 77-181. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A and 354th in the AHSAA. The Generals are led by head coach Jeremy Phillips who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-30 over the past four seasons at Horseshoe Bend. The Generals have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Phillips. The Generals will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Generals open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Wadley on Friday, August 25 at Curtis Lynch Memorial Field. Last year the Wadley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region six. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 34-15. Horseshoe Bend and Wadley have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Generals have a 13-18-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Horseshoe Bend winning by a score of 14-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
