Wadley completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Wadley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pickens County by a score of 34-15. The Bulldogs hope to get back closer to the 13-2 record in 2021. The defense was very stingy last season as Wadley ranked 30th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.2 points a game. Since 2010, Wadley has gone a combined 91-56. Their 61.9% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wadley has finished a combined 203-92. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 1A and 45th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Shenan Motley who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-20 over the past four seasons at Wadley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Motley. Over the course of his career, Coach Motley's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. The Bulldogs have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2012 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2023. Sophomore Jaquez Wilkes will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,776 yards and 13 TDs in 2022. The Bulldogs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Horseshoe Bend on Friday, August 25 at Curtis Lynch Memorial Field. Last year the Horseshoe Bend Generals finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class 2A region three. The Generals ended last season on a positive note with a win over Beulah by a score of 16-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Wadley and Horseshoe Bend have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 18-13-0 record against the Generals. They last met in 2022 with Horseshoe Bend winning by a score of 14-6. The Bulldogs return 1A All-State sophomore running back Jacquez Wilkes. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
