2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wenonah finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Wenonah finished sixth in Class 5A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Dragons lost as many games as in any season since 1982. The defense allowed a team record 280 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Wenonah averaged scoring just 8.6 points a game. The Dragons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Wenonah has gone a combined 68-56. Their 54.8% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wenonah has managed to compile a record of 132-117. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 5A and 157th in the AHSAA. The Dragons are led by head coach Nicholas Howard who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Wenonah. The Dragons have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Howard. Coach Howard's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The Wenonah Dragons will play in Class 5A region five during the 2022 season. This season, the Dragons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. The Dragons open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Midfield on Friday, August 26 at Winfred E. Jackson Stadium. Last year the Midfield Patriots finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in first place in Class 2A region five. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Cleveland by a score of 61-46. Wenonah and Midfield have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Dragons have a 15-4-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2021 with Midfield winning by a score of 1-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
