 2022 Preview 


       Southern Prep Academy completed the 2021 season with a 9-4 record. With their 0-0 region record and a place finish in Class 8 Man region , the Fighting Rangers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Last year Southern Prep Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Evangel Christian Alabaster team by the score of 42-20.

       No team at Southern Prep Academy ever won more games in a season than the nine victories last year. The 366 points scored by the Fighting Rangers last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, the Southern Prep Academy football program has struggled with a record of 28-81.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Prep Academy has not won much with a record of 49-166. Their 23.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AISA-8 Man and 34th in the AISA. The Fighting Rangers have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time.




       The Fighting Rangers are led by head coach Roland Bell who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-20 over the past four seasons at Southern Prep Academy. Under his direction the Fighting Rangers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell.

       Coach Bell's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 26-37 (41.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers will play in Class AISA-8 Man region one during the 2022 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier.

       The Fighting Rangers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Lakeside on Friday, August 19 at Reeves Field. Last year the Lakeside Chiefs finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class A region one. The Chiefs lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Jackson Academy by a score of 42-12.

       Southern Prep Academy and Lakeside have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Fighting Rangers have a 1-2-0 record against the Chiefs. They last met in with
