 2022 Preview 


       Southern Academy finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-9 record.

       The Cougars lost as many games as in any season since 1985.

       The Cougars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-15 record. Since 2010, Southern Academy has gone a combined 45-78. Their 36.6% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Academy has managed to compile a record of 166-110. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A and 10th in the AISA.




       The Cougars will be under the direction of new head football coach Chris Hilliker as they enter the 2022 season.  

       Coach Hilliker's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 122-67 (64.6%). His 122 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hilliker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won two region championships.

       The Southern Academy Cougars will play in Class A region one during the 2022 season. The Cougars may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AA to A. They will compete in region one this year.

       The Cougars enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Cougars if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season.

       The Cougars open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Meadowview Christian on Friday, August 26 at Wasden Field. Last year the Meadowview Christian Trojans finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in sixth place in Class A region two.

       Southern Academy and Meadowview Christian have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 15-3-0 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2019 with Southern Academy winning by a score of 62-0.
