2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sipsey Valley finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Sipsey Valley finished sixth in Class 5A region three with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bears have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Sipsey Valley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game. Sipsey Valley struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.0 points a game. The Bears would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Sipsey Valley has gone a combined 34-90. Their 27.4% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 12 seasons, Sipsey Valley has not won much with a record of 34-90. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 4A and 357th in the AHSAA. The Bears have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time. The Bears will be under the direction of new head football coach Joey Milligan as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Milligan served as an assistant coach on the staff at Sipsey Valley last season. Coach Milligan's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 13-20 (39.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Milligan's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Sipsey Valley Bears will play in Class 4A region three during the 2022 season. The Bears may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region three this year. It will be an uphill battle for the Bears if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Bears open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Gordo on Friday, August 19 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 4A region five. The Green Wave lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Oneonta by a score of 36-26. Sipsey Valley and Gordo have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Bears have a 0-10-0 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2017 with Gordo winning by a score of 49-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
