 2022 Preview 


       Russellville completed the 2021 season with a 9-3 record. Last year Russellville captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Russellville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Fairview by a score of 35-21.

       Since 2010, Russellville has gone a combined 95-44. Their 68.3% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Russellville has gone a combined 232-79. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 5A and 18th in the AHSAA. The Golden Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Golden Tigers are led by head coach John Ritter who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 36-11 over the past four seasons at Russellville. Under his direction the Golden Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Ritter.

       Coach Ritter's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 69-34 (67.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Ritter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won three region championships.

       The Russellville Golden Tigers will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2022 season.

       The Golden Tigers enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games.

       The Golden Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Golden Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Grissom on Friday, August 19 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Grissom Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 7A region four. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Hazel Green by a score of 40-34 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Russellville and Grissom have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Golden Tigers have a 1-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with

       Russellville returns 5A All-State Senior running back Conner Warhurst. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Golden Tigers also return Senior receiver TJ King. He was named to the honorable mention team.

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
