2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mary Montgomery finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Mary Montgomery finished eighth in Class 7A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2002 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. Since 2010, the Mary Montgomery football program has struggled with a record of 16-44. Over the past 25 seasons, Mary Montgomery has not won much with a record of 83-168. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 7A and 329th in the AHSAA. The Vikings have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2002. The Vikings are led by head coach Brian Seymore who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Mary Montgomery. The Vikings have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Seymore. Coach Seymore's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 64-43 (59.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Seymore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won two region championships. The Mary Montgomery Vikings will play in Class 7A region one during the 2016 season. The Vikings have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-45 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 7A and 37th in the AHSAA. This season, the Vikings will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Vikings open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent UMS-Wright on Friday, August 19 at Erwin S. Cooper Stadium. Last year the UMS-Wright Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 4A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 33-0. Mary Montgomery and UMS-Wright have met a total of 15 times on the football field.
