2016 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Faith Academy finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Faith Academy finished seventh in Class 5A region one with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Faith Academy ever lost more games in a season than the nine they lost last year. The Rams have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. Faith Academy was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.7 points a game. Faith Academy struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.4 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, the Faith Academy football program has struggled with a record of 15-44. Over the past 25 seasons, Faith Academy has managed to compile a record of 112-149. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A and 254th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2008. Rusty Mason stepped down as the head football coach at Faith Academy after the 2015 season. He served as the head coach for four seasons with an overall record of 10-29 without ever reaching the playoffs at Faith. He had also served as the head coach at Excel and Cottage Hill Christian prior to arriving at Faith Academy. Lance Lawley hopes to turn the Rams into winners as the takes over the helm at Faith Academy for the 2016 season. Lawley graduated from Daphne high school in 1993 where he played football before making the baseball team at Troy. He has served as an assistant at McGill-Toolen, Mary Montgomery and Jackson prior to taking his first head coaching job at Faith this year. The Faith Academy Rams will play in Class 5A region one during the 2016 season. The Rams enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Faith Academy will be to simply win some games. The Rams open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, August 26 at Ram Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 11-4 and in second place in Class 3A region one. The Admirals lost in the Class 3A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Piedmont. They final score was 44-7 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. Faith Academy and Bayside Academy have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Rams have a 2-4-0 record against the Admirals. They last met in 2015 with Bayside Academy winning by a score of 41-14. College prospects include: Mylan Stennis (6-0, 191) safety, | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
