Larry Boykin

Larry Boykin graduated from Washington County High School in Chatom, Alabama. He received his degree from Alabama State.

Boykin was an assistant coach at Southern Choctaw High School in Gilbertown for 13 years before becoming the head football coach in 1994. Over the next thirteen seasons his teams were among the best teams in Class 2A in the state.

Boykin, led the Indians to Class 2A state football titles in 1998, 1999 and 2002. His 1998 team finished 15-0 and the 2002 team went 14-0. His record at Southern Choctaw was 113-46 with six area and region titles. All but two of his Indian teams reached the playoffs.

The 1998 team won the first State Championship in the history of the school by defeating Lineville 166 in the title game. They would repeat the following year by once again beating Lineville 27-7.

In 2002, the Indians met Lineville for a third time in the title game and again came away with a championship following a 12-6 victory.

After the 2006 season, Coach Boykin moved to McIntosh High School replacing James Rutherford. He remained for three years before accepting the head coaching job at Hillcrest High School in Evergreen in 2010. Boykin retired from coaching following the 2014 season.

His overall record stands at 161-83 while his playoff record is 26-14 over twenty-one years as a head football coach. Boykin was named the Class 2A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 1998 and 1999.
