Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Don Creasy

Don Creasy grew up in Leighton and played high school football at Colbert County for Hall of Fame coach C.T. Manley. He was named to the ASWA All-State team as a 210 pound tackle his senior season. Creasy played in the Alabama All-Star game in Tuscaloosa following his high school playing days.

He received a scholarship to Florence State in 1961 where he was the most valuable lineman for the 1964 season. He was a three time letterman from 1962-65. Following college he became an assistant at Sheffield high school for coach William Whitlock.

After three years at Sheffield he came home to Colbert County where he served as an assistant for the next four years. His initial duties at Colbert County included coaching the freshmen team. Little did he know that first team would four years later be the 1972 State Championship team led by Ozzie Newsome and Phil Gargis.

Creasy left Colbert County for the head coaching position at Central Florence in 1973 where he remained for five seasons. His teams there were a combined 32-16-1. The 1976 team at Central was the first in school history to qualify for the playoffs.

In 1978 he would once again return to his alma mater to succeed his legendary mentor at Colbert County, C.T. Manley. His first team reached the state finals losing to Eufaula 28-0 in the title game. In just his second year he won a share of his first state championship when the Indians tied Jackson 0-0.

Beginning in 1981 with a win over Colbert Heights his team won 31 regular season games in a row which is still at record at the school. His 1985 team would finish the year with a 13-1 record and another state title with a 26-13 win over Dora.

Creasy would lead one more team to the championship game when in 1989 his Indians lost to Pike County in a hard fought contest 20-19. Following that season he would leave Colbert County with a record of 126-26-1 over the span of twelve years.

Creasy would coach at Coffee for two seasons and Mountain Brook for four years before retiring following the 1995 season. His overall record was 185-77-2 in 23 seasons at four schools.

He was named Coach of the Year by the ASWA in 1982 and 1985 and was inducted into the AHSAA Hall of Fame in 1998. Creasy is also a member of the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame.
