Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Bill Clark

Like many of the most successful coaches around the state Coach Bill Clarks father, Ragan Clark, was also a coach and won more than 100 football games as a head coach in Alabama. He attended Piedmont High School where he was a star on the football field. Clark was selected to the Class 3A All-State team in 1985 as an offensive lineman by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

He received his degree from Jacksonville State University.

While attending classes in college he assisted his father at Ashville High School. The experience he gained while in college paid dividends. In Clarks first job out of school, he went back to his alma mater as a defensive coordinator for George Hoblitzell.

Clark stayed at Piedmont only two seasons (1990-91) before he began his journey upward in the coaching ranks. He went to Tuscaloosa County as the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, then to Coffee County, Georgia, for two years (1995-96) and to Dothan for two more (1997-98) before he got his first head coaching job.

Clark took over the head coaching position at Prattville in 1999 and made a name for himself over the next nine seasons.

Coach Clark posted a 106-11 record as the head coach for the Lions with his final two squads finishing 30-0. He completed his high school coaching career with a 48-2 region record having won forty-two consecutive region games. He was named as the ASWA Coach of the Year in 2006.

Clark stepped down at Prattville following the 2008 season having last lost a regular season game in 2002 (55 games) and winning back to back state championships. Clark moved up to the college ranks as the defensive coordinator at South Alabama and in 2013 accepted the head coaching position at Jacksonville State University.

Coach Clark served as the head coach for the North-South All-Star game in 2004. He was also named Class 6A Coach of the Year the same season.
