Season Wrap-up

The 2022 AHSAA Super Seven are history. Here are a few tidbits from the 2022 football season.

   *  The final AFHSHS.org Power Ratings and the scoring averages for every team will be available by Sunday. If you missed any of the football action we will give you a weekly rundown of everything.

   *    My thoughts on the 2022 Super Seven. It was great to be able to watch the games on TV as I was unable to attend this year. But could we make it available for streaming next year? There were a bunch of star players whose names will be known across the state for years to come. The crazy thing is how many of them will return next year. An 8th grade QB may just top that list.

Other Notes on the 2022 Season

   *   Only one team made it through the 2022 football season undefeated in the AHSAA. 2A - Fyffe (15-0). More on Fyffe..... Over the past seven seasons the Red Devils are 97-3. They are 125-5 in the past nine years with five state championships. Over the last ten seasons they have won 137 games the most by any team in any ten year period. They also have the longest current winning streak at 15 games. I could write a book with all the accomplishments but who would read it.

   *  If I had a vote for Mr. Football this year it would have to go to Jack Hayes of Piedmont. Maybe not for the 2022 season alone but at least a lifetime achievement award maybe.

   *   Quinn Hambrite has to be considered for statewide coach of the year for turning around the fortunes of Charles Henderson from 2-8 to a Super Seven appearance in 4A.

   *   Thanks to all the fans who purchased a team book this season. I hope you enjoy looking through them.

   *  Congratulations to all the teams that won championships in 2022. It is something you will always remember. Never take it for granted.
