Week Eleven Tidbits & Records

All brackets are finalized and now the quest for a state championship will begin. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *  The AFHSHS.org Power Ratings Top Ten and the scoring averages for every team will be available by Sunday. If you missed any of the football action we will give you a weekly rundown of everything.

   *  Look for a special edition of the Tidbits & Records Sunday. We will wrap up the regular season and take a look at the playoffs. We will also have previews for every playoff game available by Sunday evening. Predictions will be posted Monday.

   *  Fyffe broke a tie with Russellville for the most consecutive 10 win seasons. They have already secured twelve consecutive ten wins seasons in the regular season.

   *  T.R. Miller defeated rival W.S. Neal 29-0 this week and now sits atop the list of most overall victories by any team in history. Their record stands at 717-330-20 since 1926. That is one more victory than second place Oneonta and four more than Fayette County.

   * While many teams took the week off to prepare for the playoffs there were still a few good games. Central Phenix City won the 7A region 2 crown with a 27-7 win over Prattville. Madison Academy held Westminster Christian in check and defeated them 49-14. Fairhope traveled to Briarwood and handed the lions a 44-22 loss. Theodore completed a perfect 10-0 regular season by knocking off St. Paul's 16-3.

   *  Do you like offense? Check out a game with Westminster Christian. The Wildcats average 46.5 points on offense but allow 38.3 on defense. That is an average of 84.8 points scored in each game they have played this season. Southside Selma is not far behind as their games end with an average of 80.0 points being scored each week.

   * Eleven ranked teams lost this week. Many of the losses were to other ranked teams or teams from a higher classification.

   *  Ten teams scored over 60 points in their wins. In a wild one, Autaugaville was near perfect on offense by beating Central Coosa 70-20. Also Pell City outscored Springville 70-40 in a wild offensive showing.

   *  Meek is 10-0 for the first time since 1986. Priceville is 10-0 for the first time ever. Anniston is 9-0 for the first time since 2001 and Theodore is 10-0 for the first time since the 2000 football season. Lee-Scott Academy in 10-0 for the first time ever.

   * Gulf Shores (9-1) is off to the best start in any season ever. Excel is 9-1 for the first time since 1997. Arab is 9-1 for the first time since 1993. J.B. Pennington is 9-1 for the first time since 1995. Vincent is 9-1 for the first time since 1980. Moody is 9-1 for the first time ever.

   *  On the flip side of winning, Sylacauga is 0-10 for the first time since 1994. Fultondale ended the season 0-10 for the first time since 1973.

   *  Alabama teams are a combined 39-41 vs. out-of-state competition. They were 10-17 against Georgia, 10-10 vs. Florida, 9-4 vs. Tennessee and 8-9 against Mississippi.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 259 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *  Deshler took the week off but still leads the state with eleven consecutive wins.

   *   Columbia holds onto the longest losing streak at 71 straight contests. The Eagles have completed their season. Columbia has surpassed the state's longest losing streak in history held by R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

   *   American Christian leads for most consecutive region victories with 35 straight wins.

   *   Barbour County has lost 58 straight region contests.

   *   Catholic Montgomery now leads the state with a streak of 24 consecutive regular season victories. The Knights have scored 40 or more points in ten straight games and 21 of the last 23 games. Hartselle has won 23 straight regular season games.

   *   Clay-Chalkville has won 19 straight home game games to lead all teams. The Cougars also took the week off.

   *   Catholic Montgomery also has the longest road winning streak at 15 games following their big win on the road. Oneonta has won 14 straight on the road.

   *   Fyffe extended their streak of consecutive games scoring to 301 games after beating Sylvania 35-14. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354 games.

   *   Coach Terry Curtis at UMS-Wright is tied Buddy Anderson for the most wins by a coach in state history. The Bulldogs defeated Williamson 17-8 this week. His overall record stands at 346-92 in 34 seasons and Shaw, Murphy and UMS-Wright. Coach Anderson compiled a record of 346-160 in 43 years at the helm of the Rebels. This is also his sixth undefeated regular season as a head coach.

   *   Coach Jonathan Miller at Saks joined the 100 win club this week when his Wildcats defeated Talladega 62-24. He has an overall record of 100-31 in eleven seasons at Saks. Congratulations Coach.

   *   Oxford became the 36th school to record their 600th win this week with a 34-28 victory over Jacksonville. The Yellow Jackets are 600-383-44 since starting their football program back in 1920.

* Pell City set a team record in a win 70-40 over Springville breaking the previous record set in a victory over Pinson Valley 69-8 on 11/1/1991.

* Smiths Station set a team record in a 63-0 loss to Auburn breaking the previous record set in a loss to Central Phenix City 62-7 on 9/22/2017.

Margin of Victory in a game

* Brewer set a team record by defeating Danville 56-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Vinemont 61-6 on 9/27/2013.

* Smiths Station set a team record in a loss 63-0 to Auburn breaking the previous record set when they lost to Central Phenix City 61-0 on 10/23/2009.

* Pell City set a team record in a 70-40 victory over Springville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Anniston Presbyterian 95-7 on 9/30/1921.

* Springville set a team record in a loss 70-40 to Pell City breaking the previous record set in a loss to St. Clair County 58-42 on 11/2/2012.
