AHSFHS.org Report
(Nov. 21, 2015)

Week 14

On to the semifinals for the lower six classes. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *    Congratulations to the AISA State Champions. Abbeville Christian wins their second consecutive title with a 42-14 victory over Chambers Academy. Edgewood Academy got a scare from Marengo Academy but held the Longhorns out the endzone late and won 40-34. Bessemer Academy clipped Monroe Academy 34-6 in the AISA-AAA title game.

   *     The 7A final are set..... Spain Park and McGill-Toolen will play for the championship on Dec 2nd in Tuscaloosa. This will be the Yellow Jacket's first ever trip to any championship game. With a win they will tie Hoover for the most 7A titles all-time. (That was my annual attempt at humor). It will be the Jaguars' second trip as they fell to Prattville 14-0 in 2007. It is only the second time since 2000 that Hoover is not in a championship game. It will be the the first title for either team.

   *     Bayside Academy, Decatur Heritage Christian, Hillcrest Evergreen and Mortimer Jordan move on to the semi-finals for the first time in their school's history.

   *    It has been a while since these teams got this deep into the playoffs; Austin (1983) and G.W. Long (1999).

   *    Teams still playing who have never won a semi-final game include all six of the above teams. Alexandria has not won in the semi-finals since 1997.

   *    Colbert County is still playing football and has won 11 semi-final games with a 11-7 record. Elba is 6-0 and Leeds has gone 4-1 in this round.

   *   In 1A, Maplesville and Linden, both from region four will determine the south representative. In 2A region one and region eight are the only remaining teams. The same is true in 4A where regions three and five are the only two remaining. In 3A, region one will decide the South.

   *    Hillcrest Evergreen in the lone remaining four seed in the playoffs. Colbert County was a three seed. In Class 3A, only Piedmont remains as a number one seed. There are twelve number one seeds left along with ten number two seeds.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have a string of 208 games in which they have scored dating to 10/22/1999. They extended the streak with a hard fought 24-20 win over Ranburne. Brantley was second at 187 games but will fall off the list following a 41-0 shutout against Linden.

   *  Clay-Chalkville, retains their hold on of the longest winning streak in the AHSAA at 28 games after defeating Minor 50-14 in the third round. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 71 game winning streak following a 40-34 win over Marengo Academy for their sixth consecutive state title.

   *   Spanish Fort has won 24 consecutive road games following their third round home win over Opelika. Edgewood Academy has a string of 39 straight wins on the road.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 75 straight games. The Cougars have also scored at least 30 points in 33 consecutive games. Both are AHSAA state records.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least thirty points in 32 straight games in the AISA. Edgewood has also scored at least twenty points in 70 consecutive games.
