THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Sep. 6, 2020)

Week Three

Three weeks down and things are starting to settle in for most schools. Here are a few tidbits from the third week of action around the state.

   *  We at AHSFHS.org are working hard every day to keep things accurate and straight in a very difficult season. I ask that if you see something that appears to be incorrect please let me know and I can investigate it.

   *  The #1 team in 2A, the Leroy Bears are 2-0 and have yet to play a game as they received forfeits from Southern Choctaw and Orange Beach. The Bears will get another one this week from Greene County before taking a scheduled open date. They will not play their first game until Sept. 25 at home against Sweet Water.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 222 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs defeated rival Vestavia Hills 24-21 on Friday night.

   *  Fyffe controls the state's longest winning streak with 32 consecutive victories. The Red Devils shutout Collinsville 54-0.

   *   Barbour County, not fielding a squad this season, has a string of sixty-one consecutive losses over the past eight seasons. The Jaguars forfeited to Maplesville.

   *   Fyffe has a streak of 34 consecutive region wins with no signs of slowing down this year even with the move up to 3A. The Red Devils opened region play this week at Collinsville.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 46 consecutive region games and added to that streak following a forfeit to Sylvania.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 50 straight regular season games. They are within sight of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few years ago.

   *   Fyffe also holds the longest home winning streak of any team in the state with a string of 41 consecutive following their latest road victory.

   *   Central Clay County now holds the longest road winning streak at 13 games. The Vols squeaked by Sylacauga 27-22. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 28 straight road victories following a 53-0 victory over Springwood on the road.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 265 games without being shutout.

   *   Sidney Lanier and Alexandria have accumulated 599 victories in the history of their schools according to our records. Both will be shooting for that magical 600th win next week.

   *   Demopolis head football coach Brian Seymore won the 100th game as a head coach Friday as the Tiger thumped Central Tuscaloosa 40-24 to move to 3-0 on the season. His overall record in 15 seasons stands at 100-58.

   *   Coach Paul Benefield at Fyffe has a record of 299-53 as a head football coach. Coach Benefield will has his team prepped for the magic 300th victory as they take on Sylvania at home this week. Ironically Coach Benefield started his head coaching career at Sylvania back in 1992 where he remained for five seasons before moving over to Fyffe. The Red Devils are 59-1 since a loss in the state championship game back in 2015.

   *   Below is a list of the known games that were forfeited. It is sad for everyone involved with these schools as they were not able to participate this week. Some will miss out on the entire season. We decided to publish this only for historical reasons in this most unusual season. We wish to be as accurate as possible so if we missed anything please email me so we can get every game accounted for correctly. By our count there were 24 forfeited games. Let us all hope this improves next week.
