 2023 Preview 


       Vincent completed the 2022 season with a 10-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region four, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Vincent reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Clarke County by a score of 43-28.

       No team at Vincent ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The 541 points scored by the Yellow Jackets last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Yellow Jackets qualified for the playoffs.

       The high-scoring Vincent offense ranked 5th in the AHSAA. They averaged 45.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Vincent has gone a combined 61-77. Their 44.2% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Vincent has managed to compile a record of 124-143. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 2A and 222nd in the AHSAA.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Lucas Weatherford who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-29 over the past five seasons at Vincent. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Weatherford.

       The Yellow Jackets won ten games for the first time in school history last season. Coach Leatherford will have the troops ready for more of the same this season.

       The Yellow Jackets enter the 2023 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Yellow Jackets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

      Rykelus Robertson will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,737 yards and 17 TDs in 2022.

      The defense will be led by Ray Albright this season after collecting 90 total tackles last season.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Ragland on Friday, August 25 at Joan Ford Field. Last year the Ragland Purple Devils finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 1A region six. The Purple Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Marion County by a score of 59-22.

       Vincent and Ragland have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 4-4-0 record against the Purple Devils. They last met in 2022 with Vincent winning by a score of 41-26.

       Vincent lost 2A All-State  linebacker Zack Wright to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive lineman Easton Fields, quarterback Blake Allums and receiver Tray Youngblood.

       The Yellow Jackets return 2A All-State Senior athlete Rykelus Robertson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
