 2023 Preview

Millry completed the 2022 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Millry captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 2007 season. Millry made a nice playoff run in 2022, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Leroy team by the score of 28-11.

No team at Millry ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year.

The defense was very stingy last season as Millry ranked 10th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Millry has gone a combined 81-64. Their 55.9% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Millry has managed to compile a record of 170-113. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 1A and 94th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Shane Hendry who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-6 over the past two seasons at Millry. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Hendry.

What does Millry do for an encore in 2023? Their goal will be to get past the semi-finals of the playoffs and make reservations for Tuscaloosa. The Wildcats seem to have the key ingredients to make a run at a championship this season.

The Wildcats enter the 2023 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. Millry has won 7 consecutive region games.

The Wildcats are considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Wildcats are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Wildcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Receiver Jaylen Manuel will return after catching 32 passes good for 586 yards and 10 TDs as a junior last season.

The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Citronelle on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Citronelle Wildcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 5A region one. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Elberta by a score of 28-27.

Millry and Citronelle have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-4-1 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Millry winning by a score of 30-14.

Millry lost 1A All-State  offensive lineman Michael Seay to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates linebacker Conner Minus and punter Zach Jenkins.

The Wildcats return 1A All-State Senior receiver Jaylon Manuel. He was named to the second team last season.
