 2023 Preview 


       Citronelle finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Citronelle finished eighth in Class 5A region one with a 1-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2014.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Citronelle averaged scoring just 12.1 points a game.

       The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Citronelle has gone a combined 49-83. Their 37.1% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Citronelle has managed to compile a record of 111-151. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A and 269th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Jason Rowell as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Rowell arrives after three seasons as the head football coach at Luverne. Over the course of his career, Coach Rowell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times . The Wildcats have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-48 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 5A and 44th in the AHSAA.

       This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

      

       The Wildcats open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Millry on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Millry Wildcats finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 1A region one. The Wildcats lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Leroy by a score of 28-11.

       Citronelle and Millry have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-1-1 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Millry winning by a score of 30-14.
