 2023 Preview 


       Jasper completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region five, the Vikings earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Jasper's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Moody by a score of 29-21.

       The defense allowed a team record 336 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Vikings qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Jasper has gone a combined 89-55. Their 61.8% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jasper has managed to compile a record of 182-97. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 5A and 65th in the AHSAA.




       The Vikings will be under the direction of new head football coach David Reeves as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Reeves spent the last seven years as the defensive coordinator at UAB, where he has been on the staff since 2014.

       The Vikings should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

       The Vikings open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Cullman on Friday, September 1 at Ki-Ro/Gambrell Field. Last year the Cullman Bearcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 6A region seven. The Bearcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Gadsden City by a score of 41-24.

       Jasper and Cullman have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 36-37-2 record against the Bearcats. They last met in 2022 with Cullman winning by a score of 42-21.

       Jasper lost 5A All-State  punter Spencer Rosenfeld to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Hazlewood won five consecutive state championships from 1988-1992. During this span the Golden Bears won 29 playoff games in a row.
