 2023 Preview 


       Hayden completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Hayden just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region five with a 3-4 region record.

       Hayden was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.0 points a game.

       Since 2010, Hayden has gone a combined 53-82. Their 39.3% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hayden has managed to compile a record of 91-166. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 5A and 317th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Keith Register who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-64 over the past ten seasons at Hayden. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Register. Over the course of his career, Coach Register's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times .

       The Wildcats have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season. Hayden missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 25 at W.R. Sutton Memorial Stadium. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 3A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert County by a score of 57-28.

       Hayden and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 34 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 8-25-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 19-12.
