Cottonwood completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region two, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Cottonwood's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Clarke County by a score of 27-7. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Bears qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Cottonwood has gone a combined 61-75. Their 44.9% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cottonwood has managed to compile a record of 144-132. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A and 171st in the AHSAA. The Bears are led by head coach Dustin Harrison who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-18 over the past three seasons at Cottonwood. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Harrison. Over the course of his career, Coach Harrison's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Bears have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season. The Bears open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Northside Methodist Academy on Friday, September 1 at Hicks Stadium. Last year the Northside Methodist Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in eighth place in Class 3A region two. The Knights ended last season on a positive note with a win over New Brockton by a score of 48-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Cottonwood and Northside Methodist Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bears have a 2-2-0 record against the Knights.
