 2023 Preview

Autaugaville completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region four, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Autaugaville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Linden by a score of 54-8.

It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Autaugaville has gone a combined 59-75. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Autaugaville has managed to compile a record of 139-132. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A and 178th in the AHSAA.

The Eagles are led by head coach Javaris Jackson who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-27 over the past five seasons at Autaugaville. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jackson. Over the course of his career, Coach Jackson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

The Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Autaugaville finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any chance at the postseason. Autaugaville simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 50 students, the Eagles are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful.

The Eagles open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, August 25 at Eagles Nest Stadium. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 1A region three. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 55-8.

Autaugaville and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 7-3-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with Autaugaville winning by a score of 24-18.

Autaugaville lost 1A All-State  defensive back Jaden Nixon to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.
