Abbeville finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Abbeville finished sixth in Class 2A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Abbeville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.4 points a game. Since 2010, Abbeville has gone a combined 78-64. Their 54.9% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Abbeville has managed to compile a record of 108-158. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A and 277th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach LaBrian Stewart who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-16 over the past three seasons at Abbeville. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Stewart. Over the course of his career, Coach Stewart's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship. The Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Abbeville missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2023. The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Beulah on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Beulah Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in fifth place in Class 3A region four. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Horseshoe Bend by a score of 16-13. Abbeville and Beulah have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-1-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with Abbeville winning by a score of 26-0. Abbeville lost 2A All-State athlete Wauntavious Conley to graduation.
