 2022 Preview

Meek completed the 2021 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region six, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Meek reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Woodland by a score of 21-14.

The Tigers improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2003. It marked the first time since the 2017 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Powell saw improvement as they won eight games following a 1-9 record in 2020.

Since 2010, Meek has gone a combined 47-78. Their 37.6% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Meek has managed to compile a record of 96-166. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A and 308th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Houston Powell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-13 over the past two seasons at Meek. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Powell.

Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 9-13 (40.9%).

After back to back 0-10 and 1-9 seasons Coach Powell seems to have the Meek Tigers on the right track and could be building something special at Meek. Some are projecting them to be the surprise team of this season.

The Meek Tigers will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region six over to region eight.

Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Tigers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Maplesville on Friday, August 19 at Meek Field. Last year the Maplesville Red Devils finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 1A region four. The Red Devils lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 41-7.

Meek and Maplesville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-0-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in with

Meek returns 1A All-State Senior offensive lineman Tyler Cooper. He was named to the second team last season.
