2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lauderdale County completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Lauderdale County captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Lauderdale County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Piedmont by a score of 31-0. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2012. The defense was very stingy last season as Lauderdale County ranked 17th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.0 points a game. Since 2010, Lauderdale County has gone a combined 104-41. Their 71.7% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lauderdale County has managed to compile a record of 167-118. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A and 101st in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jeff Mason who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 44-25 over the past six seasons at Lauderdale County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Mason. Coach Mason's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 44-25 (63.8%). The Lauderdale County Tigers will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2022 season. Lauderdale County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Tigers enter the 2022 season having won 11 straight region games. They have won 6 straight games on their home turf at Robert Earl Grisham Stadium. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Tanner on Thursday, August 18 at Rip Swanner Stadium. Last year the Tanner Rattlers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 2A region seven. The Rattlers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Mars Hill by a score of 47-20. Lauderdale County and Tanner have met a total of 29 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 21-7-1 record against the Rattlers. They last met in 1993 with Lauderdale County winning by a score of 20-13. Lauderdale County returns 3A All-State Senior running back Jaylon Byrd. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
