 2018 Preview 


       Elba completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Elba's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Leroy by a score of 48-20.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Elba has gone a combined 85-19. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Elba has managed to compile a record of 165-112. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 1A and 97th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2006.




       The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Pate Harrison as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Harrison's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 46-24 (65.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Harrison's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships.

       The Elba Tigers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2018 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region two this year.

       Elba enters the 2018 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Tiger Stadium.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Elba has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2006 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018.

       The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Opp on Friday, August 31 at Channell Lee Field. Last year the Opp Bobcats finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region two. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Elba by a score of 30-18.

       Elba and Opp have met a total of 86 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 42-44-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2017 with Elba winning by a score of 30-18.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
