 2018 Preview

McKenzie finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year McKenzie finished sixth in Class 1A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

McKenzie took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012.

McKenzie struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 42.3 points a game.

Since 2010, McKenzie has gone a combined 53-32. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, McKenzie has managed to compile a record of 122-132. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 1A and 218th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Tony Norris who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-15 over the past three seasons at McKenzie. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Norris.

Coach Norris' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 16-15 (51.6%).

The McKenzie Tigers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2018 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season.

The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Houston Academy on Friday, August 31 at Westgate Park. Last year the Houston Academy Raiders finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 3A region two.

McKenzie and Houston Academy have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 5-3-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2003 with Houston Academy winning by a score of 39-0.
