 2016 Preview

Victory Christian completed the 2015 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Victory Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Berry Fayette by a score of 46-14.

The Lions improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2009. The Lions won as many games as in any season since 2009. It marked the first time since the 2009 season that the Lions qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, the Victory Christian football program has struggled with a record of 13-46.

Over the past 16 seasons, Victory Christian has not won much with a record of 50-110. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 1A and 339th in the AHSAA.

The Lions are led by head coach Mark Sanders who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Victory Christian. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sanders.

Coach Sanders' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-9 (57.1%).

The Victory Christian Lions will play in Class 1A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 1A but move from region five over to region four.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Unfortunately, Victory Christian finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Sumiton Christian on Friday, August 19 at Richard Adams Stadium. Last year the Sumiton Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Meek by a score of 62-32.

Victory Christian and Sumiton Christian have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 2-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in with
