 2016 Preview 


       Slocomb completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region two, the Red Tops earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Slocomb's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to American Christian by a score of 38-13.

       Since 2010, Slocomb has gone a combined 39-27. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Slocomb has managed to compile a record of 135-144. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A and 217th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

Jon Cooper resigned as the head football coach at Slocomb for another opportunity. His three teams at Slocomb went 21-23 and 1-3 in the playoffs. Each team won seven games each season.


A graduate of Pleasant Home, Richard Tisdale will be the head football coach at Slocomb in 2016. After only one year at Daleville, he was hired at G.W. Long where he served as an assistant football coach.

in 2013, he moved to Rehobeth where he coached the quarterbacks the past three seasons.



       The Slocomb Red Tops will play in Class 3A region two during the 2016 season. Slocomb will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       The Red Tops will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

      Running back Darius Smith returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,066 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior last year.

       The Red Tops open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Rehobeth on Friday, August 26 at W.F. Andrews Field. Last year the Rehobeth Rebels finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region two.

       Slocomb and Rehobeth have met a total of 63 times on the football field. The Red Tops have a 29-33-1 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2015 with Slocomb winning by a score of 35-0.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
