 2016 Preview

Gaylesville finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Gaylesville finished sixth in Class 1A region seven with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Trojans last playoff victory came during the 1975 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Gaylesville was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Trojans want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.3 points a game.

The Trojans would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Gaylesville has gone a combined 22-40. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Gaylesville has managed to compile a record of 94-163. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A and 301st in the AHSAA.

The Trojans are led by head coach Kyle Garmon who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-20 over the past three seasons at Gaylesville. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Garmon.

Coach Garmon's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 10-20 (33.3%).

The Gaylesville Trojans will play in Class 1A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Trojans remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region six.

It will be an uphill battle for the Trojans if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, Gaylesville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

Running back Hill returns for his senior season after rushing for 791 yards and 6 touchdowns as a junior last year.

The Trojans open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Section on Friday, August 26 at Trojan Field. Last year the Section Lions finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 2A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to North Sand Mountain by a score of 35-0.

Gaylesville and Section have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 5-9-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2005 with Section winning by a score of 38-6.
