Section finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Section finished sixth in Class 2A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Section took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The Lions have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Section averaged scoring just 9.8 points a game. Since 2010, Section has gone a combined 22-38. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Section has managed to compile a record of 99-160. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A and 297th in the AHSAA. The Lions are led by head coach Drew Davis who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Section. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis. Coach Davis' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The Section Lions will play in Class 2A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region six. It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just a single win last year, Section will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Lions open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Pisgah on Friday, August 19 at Sam Kenimer Stadium. Last year the Pisgah Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region seven. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Ashville by a score of 41-26. Section and Pisgah have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Lions have a 11-32-0 record against the Eagles.
