 2016 Preview

Crenshaw Christian finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class A region two, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Crenshaw Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Jackson Academy by a score of 50-0.

The Cougars hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-4 record in 2014.

Since 2010, Crenshaw Christian has gone a combined 41-27. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Crenshaw Christian has managed to compile a record of 171-107. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A and 8th in the AISA.

Dean Briggs leaves Crenshaw Christian after only one season and a 3-8 record

Mike Sims arrives at Crenshaw Christian from Autauga Academy where his teams went a combined 55-29 in seven seasons. Prior to the Autauga job, he was the head football coach at Sparta Academy in 2007 and 2008 with a 11-9 record.

Coach Sims' overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 66-38 (63.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sims' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship.

The Crenshaw Christian Cougars will play in Class A region one during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Cougars remain in A but move from region two over to region one.

It will be an uphill battle for the Cougars if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season.

The Cougars open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 19 at McCorquodale Stadium. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class A region one. The Eagles lost in the semi-finals round of the Class A playoffs to Abbeville Christian by a score of 45-20.

Crenshaw Christian and Jackson Academy have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 7-6-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2015 with Jackson Academy winning by a score of 50-0.
