 2016 Preview 


       With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region 7, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Spring Garden reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 30-22.  The 470 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, Spring Garden has gone a combined 32-33. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Spring Garden has managed to compile a record of 87-153. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 1A and 316th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Jason Howard who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 56-63 over the past eleven seasons at Spring Garden. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Howard.

       Coach Howard's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen seasons stands at 61-78 (43.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Howard's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Panthers enter the 2016 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

      The Spring Garden Panthers will play in Class 1A region 6 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region 7 over to region 6.

       The Panthers should contend for a playoff spot in Region 6 this season.

       The Panthers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Beulah on Friday, August 26 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Beulah Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 3A region 3. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Randolph County by a score of 35-0.

       Spring Garden and Beulah have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-1-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 47-12.

       Spring Garden returns 1A All-State Senior running back Quintin Downey. He was named to the second team last season.
