 2016 Preview 


       With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region 3, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Fultondale's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Bayside Academy by a score of 42-10.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Fultondale has gone a combined 45-25. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Fultondale has managed to compile a record of 129-142. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A and 208th in the AHSAA.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Richie Busby who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-13 over the past three seasons at Fultondale. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Busby.

       Coach Busby's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 21-13 (61.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Busby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

      

      The Fultondale Wildcats will play in Class 3A region 6 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region 3 over to region 6.

       The Wildcats should contend for a playoff spot in Region 6 this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Tarrant on Friday, August 26 at Wildcats Field. Last year the Tarrant Wildcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 2A region 6. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Shelby County by a score of 52-14.

       Fultondale and Tarrant have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 13-22-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2019 with Fultondale winning by a score of 43-0.

       Fultondale returns 3A All-State sophomore linebacker JaLen Sims. He was named to the first team last season. The Wildcats also return Senior defensive lineman Jason King. He was named to the second team.

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
