 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region 3, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Chelsea's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Blount by a score of 41-28.

       Since 2010, Chelsea has gone a combined 36-27. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Chelsea has managed to compile a record of 133-134. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 6A and 185th in the AHSAA.

       The Hornets are led by head coach Chris Elmore who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-14 over the past three seasons at Chelsea. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Elmore.

       Coach Elmore's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 17-14 (54.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Elmore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

      

      The Chelsea Hornets will play in Class 6A region 3 during the 2016 season.

       The Hornets should contend for a playoff spot in Region 3 this season.

       The Hornets open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Oak Mountain on Friday, August 19 at Heardmont Park Sportsplex/Eagle Stadium. Last year the Oak Mountain Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 7A region 3. The ended last season on a positive note with a win over Pell City by a score of 20-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Chelsea and Oak Mountain have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 3-9-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2023 with Chelsea winning by a score of 21-13.
