            Pugh was named All-Pine Belt Conference and All-State two years in football, All-Pine Belt Conference two years in basketball. He also played baseball. He played varsity football four years, was captain for two seasons, and booted kickoffs.

Homewood defeated Benjamin Russell in five overtimes during the Class 5A Super Six state championship game in 2000.
