            Hughes was captain of the varsity football team and lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He was nominated for the Jimmy Hitchcock Award, he was named All-City Quarterback, and Most Valuable Player on his baseba1 team. His football statistics last season were: rushing 91 times - 410 yards; passing 53 attempts, 28 completions for 315 yards; 5 touchdowns.
