McArthur played at fullback position for four years of varsity football. His specialty was punting - average of 39.9. He was All-State, Football 2 years; All-County, Football 2 years; Most Valuable Player, voted Most Valuable Player in state {Birmingham Post Herald - 2A Class; All-County; All-Basketball for 2 years. He played basketball, also and ran track. He gained 1,413 yards on 244 carries for a 5.8 yard average. He gained over 2,800 yards and averaged 5.8 yards per carry during his high school career.
