He was Honorable Mention Prep All-American Football by Coach & Athletic Magazine; All-State, 3rd Team; All-Metro; All-County, Most Valuable Player, Dental Clinic Game; School Award, Play of the Week. He ran track and excels in shot and discus. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry and 10 tackles a game.

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
