High School Bio: McLaughlin was co-captain of his team as a senior at UMS. He played varsity football for three seasons. Athletic honors included: Lineman of the Year, All-Conference and All-State. He also participated in Baseball, basketball and track.

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
