2026 Head Football Coaching Changes

Pat Thompson retired as the head football coach at Sweet Water after a dozen seasons leading the program. Over those twelve seasons his teams won 206 games as well as twenty-two playoff games. The 2021 squad finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record and a state championship. His final season saw the Bulldogs miss the playoffs for the first time since 200 breaking a streak of twenty-four consecutive playoff appearances. 2026 Season Drew Luker was officially named the head coach at Sweet Water in mid December. He called it his dream job as he returns to where he played football and his father won five state championships as the head football coach. Luker is a 2008 graduate of UAB where he played football. He spent time as an assistant coach at Demopolis, W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller before landing his first job as a head coach at McKenzie for two seasons. He returned to Sweet Water in 2022 working under Coach Thompson. | |
