Randy Sparks was a quarterback on the Lineville Aggies football team during his high school playing days. Following graduation, he received his degree from Jacksonville State. In 1987 he became Maplesvilles head basketball coach. Sparks enjoyed a very successful coaching stint at Maplesville before moving over to White Plains. In 1995 he accepted the head football coaching job at Wadley. After a slow start at Wadley, the program turned around in 2000 when the Bulldogs put together an eight year record of 89-15 and four semi-final playoff appearances. The Bulldogs posted 10 or more wins in seven of eight seasons from 2000-2007. Following the 2009 season, Sparks stepped down as the head football coach at Wadley. His overall record was 120-58 in fifteen years as the head coach and athletic director. His last eleven teams qualified for the state playoffs and they won four region titles. Sparks also coached the mens basketball team at Wadley. Sparks accepted the job as athletic director and head football at Randolph County in 2010. He was asked to rebuild a program that won a state championship in 2003, but had struggled through back-to-back 3-7 seasons. He compiled a 16-14 record at Randolph County in three seasons before retiring from the sidelines. He still coached the Randolph County basketball team in 2012-13. Sparks coached for 35 years and compiled a 136-72 record as a head coach in 18 seasons. His teams went 18-12 in the playoffs. |
