Mike McCombs is a graduate of Pinson Valley High School and the University of Alabama-Birmingham. McCombs served as the offensive coordinator at Hewitt-Trussville High School before landing his first head coaching job in 1999 at Glencoe Hugh School near Gadsden. He led Glencoe to an 8-2 season in 1999 before moving on to coach at Gardendale High where he led that school to the playoffs in the two seasons he was there. McCombs served as a graduate assistant football coach at Troy University. McCombs coached the slot receivers and the quarterbacks in the last four games of the 2002 season under Trojans coach Larry Blakeney. In 2003, McCombs took over the football program at Geneva High School. H was head football coach for four seasons and compiled a 37-10 record. Geneva finished the 2006 season with an 11-1 record after finishing the regular season unbeaten, including a 43-42 triple-overtime victory over a Pike County team which cruised to the Class 3A title. The Panthers, meanwhile, lost to Winfield 21-20 in the second round of the 3A playoffs. Coach McCombs accepted the head coaching position at Benjamin Russell High School in 2008 where he served for two seasons before landing at Valley High School for the 2009 football season. He moved to Bibb County to take over for the departing Mike Battles Jr. in 2012. He resigned following the 2014 at Bibb County with a 19-13 record. Coach McCombs has compiled an 101-56 overall record as a head football coach during his career. |
