Bob Rutledge
Robert "Bob" Rutledge spent 33 years at St. Pauls Episcopal School in Mobile, serving as a football coach, science teacher, administrator and headmaster before retiring in 2006.
Coach Rutledge took the head football coaching position at St. Pauls in 1973. He would coach the first team the school ever put on the football field. Rutledge had intended the job to be a stepping stone on his way to dentist school. Instead, he fell in love with education and teaching youngsters.
In 16 seasons at the private school his teams finished a combined 127-40. The 1974 team went 10-0. His last team in 1993 finished 12-3 and reached the State Championship Game before falling to Colbert County 14-10 in the title game.
Rutledge was instrumental in establishing the schools community service programs. He also was the headmaster at St. Pauls. Coach Rutledge retired in 2006. He passed away at his home in Mobile on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
