 Billy McGee

William "Billy" McGee attended Carrollton High School and the University of Alabama before returning home as an assistant coach at his alma mater in 1965.

After graduating college McGee became a volunteer assistant coach in the early 1960s at Carrollton for Coach Joe Elmore. When Elmore became principal, he hired McGee full time and McGees career in education as a teacher and coach began.

He took over as the head coach in 1968 and for the next 28 seasons he led the Indians football program to two state championships in 1974 and 1994. The Indians won the 1974 title by zapping Zion Chapel in the championship game.

Carrollton returned to the championship game in 1979, losing to Sweet Water and McGees longtime 1A coaching rival and friend, Nolan Atkins, 35-0.

Twenty years after his first title, McGees Indians defeated Addison 21-14 to earn the school another State Championship.

McGee teams qualified for the playoffs 17 times including 12 consecutive at the end of his career.

His overall football coaching record stands at 205-117-2. He was named state Coach of the Year twice and his teams won 10 or more games in nine different seasons.

McGee was named Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers in 1994. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Associations Hall of Fame in 1996.
