Devin Goodwin completed 17 of 28 passes for 257 yards and four touchdowns to lead Demopolis to its first state title with a 35-21 victory over Deshler
at the Hoover Met. Goodwin, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player
for his efforts.
Demopolis set a state record for scoring in a season with 761. Both Demopolis and Deshler had entered
the game averaging 51 points per game.
Demopolis opened up a 21-7
halftime lead and the two offenses traded scores from there. Deshler got as close as 28-21 in the fourth quarter,
on an 18-yard scoring run from Darius Fuqua in the fourth
quarter.
But Dusty Gracie's 64-yard scoring catch from Goodwin just 30-seconds later gave Demopolis
a 14-point lead once again.
