Summary:
Chauncey Teague scored two
touchdowns as Oxford claimed the 5A state crown for the third
time in six years. Teague's final score came with 8:52 remaining
in the game on a spectacular 79 yard run that sealed the win for
the Yellow Jackets. Greenville tied the score at 21-21 in the
third quarter on a Kenyan Maxwell return of a Teague blocked
punt for 23 yards.
Greenville was penalized 15 yards for
excessive celebration and the 35 yard extra point was missed
keeping the score knotted at 21-21. On the ensuing kickoff
Delano Ball would run the ball 95 yards to pay dirt and Oxford
was on their way to the championship with a 28-21 lead. Paul
West led all runners with 173 yards rushing for the Yellow
Jackets.
