Summary:
The Escambia County Blue Devils claimed their first state championship since 1974 by shutting down the Emma Sansom offense all night long. They did it on the strength of running back Murray Hill and his two touchdowns. Hill scored on runs of 11 yards with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter and 16 yards with just 2:06 left in the game to seal the victory.
On the night he would rush for 103 yards on 22 carries. The Blue Devil's defense would blanket all-state wide receiver Freddy Weygand, with double coverage all night. The shutout was the third in a row for Escambia County in the playoffs.
The game was the first time Emma Sansom had advanced past the second round of the playoffs in five previous appearances.
